This screen saver was originally developed as a windowed application in the Processing environment, and is a rather extensive expansion of the Poly Pattern III programming exercise written by Ira Greenberg in his book:

               Processing

               Creative Coding and Computational Art

For more information on the Processing environment,

                       go to http://processing.org/

The configuration window contains quite a few options for setting parameters on the randomizations; it is also possible, through special keypresses while the screensaver is running, to save a particular configuration for later selection from a list of saved configurations, as well as saving a snapshot of the screen to a user-configurable location.

Spirogyra Screen Saver

(Freeware for OS X and Windows)

The Spirogyra project is currently being developed in Cocoa for

Mac OS X, and in C#.Net for Windows.

Note: the Spirogyra Screensaver is named after the algae (see image at left,) which will hopefully not object to my use of the name.  Or the image.

Versions:            Mac OS X                Windows .Net                Windows OpenGl

After spending one and a half years in development and debugging, I’m not sure I would attempt such a project again, however, it has been an interesting obsession while it lasted ...
